National Federation rules.

League placement - Teams will be placed in two leagues by enrollment. (rev 10/21/03)

                                        Section XI League Championship Meet

1.  A league championship meet will be scheduled with team scoring.
                                                                   
2.  Each school may enter three competitors per event.   (revised 5/24/05)

3.  Each school may enter only one team per relay event.

4.  Divers will compete in a six-dive format.

5.  There will be timed finals.

6.  There will be one seeding meeting of all coaches called by the sport chairman for the purpose of seeding this meet.

7.  All entry cards for the seeding meeting must be verified and certified by the coach and/or meet official.

8.  No individual competitor may compete in the league championship meet. (Approved 5/18/04)

                                    Section XI Team and Individual Championship Meet

1.  Qualifying: Any swimmer meeting the qualifying time (determined by the average of the 12th place finish over the last three or five year period, whichever is faster) in an event is eligible to compete. A swimmer is eligible for no more than two individual events and two relays or one individual event and three relays.

Athletes may qualify for the Team and Individual Championship at any season competition including the league championship.

2.  A swimmer must compete in the Section XI Team and Individual Championship in order to qualify for the NYSPHSAA Swimming Championship.

3.  There will be one separate seeding meeting of all coaches called by the sport chairman for the purpose of seeding this meet.

4.  All entry cards for the seeding meeting must be verified and certified by the coach and/or meet official.  All athletes including individual competitors must be represented by a coach at the seeding meeting.

5.  Individual competitors whose times or scores qualify among the top twelve will be allowed to compete in this meet.

6.  In the event there are not enough swimmers qualifying for the Section XI State Qualifying/Team Championship meet to fill one complete heat, the swimmers with the best heat times will be allowed to compete so that the one heat is filled.  If a relay or individual declines, invitations will be extended until the heat is full. e.g., Only four relays qualified for the 400-yd and the state qualifiers are being held in a six lane pool.  The two schools with the next best times will be asked to enter.  If one school should decline, the school or swimmer with the next best time will be invited until the heat is full.                                     NYSPHSAA Championship Meet

1.  There will be a qualifying standard for each event set by the NYSPHSAA swimming committee for girls and boys swimming. These standards will be publicized by the Section XI chairman prior to the start of the season.

2.  A swimmer must compete in the Section XI Individual Championship in order to qualify for the NYSPHSAA Swimming Championship. 

3.  The following swimmers will qualify for the NYSPHSAA Championship meet:

    a.  One individual per event and one relay team per event from each Section.

    b.  Second and third place finishers per individual event qualify if they meet the NYSPHSAA qualifying time. The qualifying time is the 16th place time from each event averaged over the past 5 years. 

    c.  Any individual who meets the 8th place qualifying time of the state meet average of the past three years.

    d.  Any relay team that meets the 3rd place qualifying time of the state meet average of the past three years. 

4.  Approved by the NYSPHSAA Executive Committee, May 2008, for a one-year trial during the 2008-09 school year:  Approval to use the 30th place preliminary time at the NYSPHSAA Championship meet to develop the qualifying time for individual events and the 15th place preliminary time for relay events.
